China is the leading auto market in the world. It is on its way to becoming the second hub for GM's global R&D effort. In my role of leading advanced technology for GM, it's important for me to first understand the Chinese market, and secondly help build our technology base. Let me also add that I really enjoy visiting Shanghai.

I might be a little biased, but i think the EN-V is the most advanced concept vehicle in the world right now.

Regarding what it takes to be the worlds' best vehicle, and what features distinguish the vehicle, it depends on the particular consumer segment. In the U.S., our full size heavy duty pickup offers the best hauling and towing capability in the industry. For that customer, it's important the new Chevrolet Cruze offers exciting design, value technologies, and towing is not a major importance. The key is to understand your customer needs for each vehicle segment locally, and target them to the local customer needs

By the way, i just picked up my new vehicle. And I chose the new Cadillac four wheel drive SRX. I enjoy the ride and handling, the package functionality, and something you probably don't need in Shanghai, the ability to drive in snowstorm confidently. And my wife likes its look!

EN-V represents a concept of what the future for personal mobility in a mega city might look like. It demonstrates the concept feasibility of small vehicle electrification and vehicle connectivity. The products in our pipeline are already incorporating several aspects of this technology. For example, the Chevrolet Volt, is using the world's best battery and motor technology. And our latest Cadillacs are incorporating many of the infortament and safety features, enabled by electronics.

Connectivity in a vehicle is an extension of the connectivity you experience everyday when you talk to someone on a cell phone, when you web chat with someone from your laptop. It's using the world wide web, and telephone connection to "connect" with other people and with the information available on the web.

The thing that amazes me in Shanghai is that every time i visit Shanghai, it's a bit different. Either in buildings or in roads. It's refreshing given the kind of the changes we are unfortunately seeing in Detroit. Although now the recovery has begun, we are anticipating the turnaround as well.

In the pavilion, we are demonstrating the vehicles to more than 10,000 visitors everyday. Getting them in the vehicles is not possible. But I've driven them, and they are a lot of fun.

Mr. Taub, from your perspective, what is the best way to introduce complicated and advanced techonologies and concepts to common people when all of the car compnies are boasting their high-tech?

The goal is to distinguish yourself not on technologies but on consumer experience. You can put in a full performance of infortament system, but if the HMI is so complicated that it is difficult to change the channel, you have not succeeded. Our strategy is to introduce the technologies and features that people will value in a way that are easy to use. For example, the three-button OnStar interface gets lots of praise from our customers about it simplicity and usefulness.

Recognize that EN-V is a concept designed to stimulate the conversation about what personal mobility will look like in 2030. We are planning to issue a Blue Paper that captures all the ideas that result from these discussions.

The benefit of the Volt over other battery electric vehicles is that the range extender allows us to launch the vehicle even when there is limited charging infrastructure. When you are not near or you don't have the time to plug the Volt in, unlike other electric vehicles, you are not stranded. Therefore people can enjoy the benefit of battery electric vehicles prior to the installation of a broad base infrastructure.

That means our brands deliver value to consumers in all segments. it's been the history around the world, and our plan is to continue that in Shanghai. We deliver value in everything from the Wuling Sunshine to the Buick Enclave, which by the way, is my wife's vehicle.

Firstly, this is a concept of what personal mobility look like. We believe this is technically doable, in the 2030 time frame. Remember that is four vehicle cycles away from now. So we have a lot of work to do to make this technology real. A lot of technologies actually are existing today, we need to make them robust and affordable.

First, the EN-V utilizes vehicle to vehicle communications to reduce the number of sensors on the vehicle. It was a natural extension from the same team of technologies that deliver the Boss vehicle that won the Urban Challenge. One difference in the EN-V is that we worked closely with design to produce an exciting vehicle style. You can tell the Boss was constructed only by the engineers.

My favorite GM car is the one I'm driving any point of time. Whether I'm in my SRX, my wife's Enclave, or my daughter's Malibu (when she actually lets me drive it), they are all the best in their own way. But in the summer, I like to take home the Chevy Corvette convertible.
