General Motors Company, a joint global automobile partner of World Expo 2010 Shanghai, today kicked off its “Drive to 2030” Expo 2010 campaign through the official launch of its interactive website (www.gmexpo2010.com).  It also introduced a century of GM innovations that have transformed the industry, including its vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication technology, which GM demonstrated for the first time in China. This next-generation technology will be one of the features at Expo 2010.

GM China President and Managing Director Kevin Wale Announces the Launch of GM Expo Website

“During Expo 2010, GM and our partner SAIC will introduce our vision for the future of urban transportation,” said Kevin Wale, President and Managing Director of the GM China Group.  “We envision a future in which vehicle emissions, traffic congestion and accidents are all in the past, and a future in which driving is more fun and exciting than ever before.”

Part of that vision includes the next generation of today’s V2V technology.  GM’s V2V system is a GPS positioning- and wireless communication-based object detection sensor system that gives vehicles a “sixth sense.” The system supports automated safety features such as lane change alert, blind spot detection, sudden stopping, forward collision warning with automatic braking, and intersection collision warning. It can also connect with infrastructure, pedestrians and cyclists. As V2V technology is applied to more vehicles, the promise of an accident-free future will move closer to realization. This will mean fewer injuries and more lives saved.

“Today's V2V technology is the foundation for future connectivity solutions that will be featured at Expo 2010,” said Alan Taub, GM's new Vice President of Global Research and Development. “Our display will reinforce GM's commitment to bringing our latest technology and know-how to China.”
