General Motors received the prestigious 2009 China Automobile Marketing Award yesterday in Guangzhou.  GM won in the category of event marketing for its World Expo 2010 Shanghai global automobile partnership project.

The annual China Automobile Marketing Awards are organized by ifeng.com in conjunction with China Europe International Business School, Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, Roland Berger Consulting, Kotler Consulting and more than 100 mainstream media.  The aim of the awards is to recognize excellent corporate marketing programs, synthesize business intelligence and share marketing achievements.

Three finalists were posted on the Internet for voting by the public.  The assessment of marketing experts, feedback from media and other factors were also taken into consideration in selecting the winners.  GM’s World Expo 2010 Shanghai project received 121,069 online votes and the support of 90 percent of the judging panel.

Award organizers commented, “GM has successfully showcased its industry leadership in technology and innovation.  It will demonstrate its vision for future transportation in 2030.  We look forward to a brilliant performance at Expo 2010 next year.”

"We regard Expo 2010 as a unique opportunity for General Motors to show the world our vision of sustainable urban transportation 20 years in the future and our advances in the next generation of automotive technology,” said Jean Liu-Barnocki, General Motors Project Manager for World Expo 2010 Shanghai.  “This award recognizes the concerted effort of GM’s Expo 2010 team as well as the full commitment of General Motors to next year’s landmark event in Shanghai.”

In November 2006, GM and SAIC signed an agreement with the Shanghai World Expo Bureau to become the joint global automobile partner of World Expo 2010 Shanghai.

Under the theme of “Drive to 2030,” GM and SAIC will introduce at their corporate pavilion their vision for a future that is petroleum-free, emission-free, accident-free and congestion-free.  They envision a driving experience that is more fun and even fashionable than ever before.  And they envision a future in which vehicles, roads and pedestrians coexist harmoniously.  GM will showcase some of its most advanced technology for making the vision a reality, including the Chevrolet Volt Extended-Range Electric Vehicle and the Chevrolet Equinox fuel cell vehicle.

World Expo 2010 Shanghai will run from May 1 to October 31, 2010. For additional information about GM’s participation, please visit www.gmexpo2010.com.
