Chevrolet Goes Fast in China: Total Sales Surpass 700,000 Units
Chevrolet has become one of the fastest-growing global vehicle brands in China. According to the latest industry statistics, more than 700,000 Chevrolets have been sold in China by Shanghai GM since the brand was officially launched locally less than five years ago.
Range of Products for Local Customers
In China, Chevrolet competes in a range of market segments – from small to intermediate to SUV. The Chevrolet Lova and Aveo have been leaders among small cars for several years, with more than 400,000 sold. Sales of the Chevrolet Cruze, which was launched in China in April, have surpassed 10,000 units for two consecutive months, making it a favorite in the very competitive A-segment. The Chevrolet Captiva SUV, which is adaptable to different road conditions, provides a unique choice of personal style for freedom-seeking young people.
Chevrolet is dedicated to being the first choice among younger car buyers and new families. It continues to roll out new products to meet the needs of local consumers. Chevrolet’s much-anticipated low-cost,high-quality small car – the New Sail – will be launched before the 2010 Spring Festival in February.This will enable more Chinese families and individuals to realize their dream of owning a car.
According to General Motors Company President and CEO Fritz Henderson, the New Sail was developed by Shanghai GM and PATAC in accordance with Chevrolet’s strict global standards. In addition to being sold in China, it may also be exported to other emerging markets. Following the New Sail, Chevrolet will continue to introduce new products for Chinese consumers from its rich product portfolio, which covers small vehicles, premium vehicles, coupes and electric vehicles.
Expanding Chevrolet’s Dealer Network and Outreach
There are now more than 300 Chevrolet dealers in some 200 cities across China. A complete service network and high standard of service have contributed to the rapid growth of the brand in China.Chevrolet not only provides nine different service items free of charge and 24-hour emergency assistance, it also has launched a variety of ownership campaigns which serve as a line of communication with owners. That is one reason why the Chevrolet brand has received positive J.D. Power scores for customer satisfaction.
Chevrolet has become identified with youth, energy and trustworthiness. It has sponsored the Chevrolet Amateur Tennis Competition and the Chevrolet Red Chalk Rural Education Promotion, as well as many musical events throughout China. Chevrolet products were featured in the Hollywood blockbuster "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.” Wentworth Miller, star of the popular American television show "Prison Break,” serves as ambassador for the Chevrolet Cruze.
