General Motors Sales in China Rise 19.2% in August
Demand for All Major Brands Continues to Grow
Shanghai – Domestic sales by GM China and its joint ventures in August rose 19.2 percent on an annual basis to 181,625 units, taking GM's sales in China for the first eight months of 2010 to 1,567,411 units.
Shanghai GM registered domestic sales growth in August of 28.1 percent on an annual basis to 81,063 units. Demand for all three brands offered by the joint venture remained robust.
Buick sales in the midsize segment set a new monthly record, with demand for the Excelle, Excelle GT and Excelle XT totaling 28,794 units. Overall Buick sales in August were up 17.4 percent year on year to 45,684 units.
Demand in China for Chevrolet products in August rose 33.5 percent on an annual basis to 38,482 units. Sales of the Cruze lower-medium sedan totaled 11,532 units. Demand for the New Sail small sedan was 8,989 units. For the year as a whole, sales of the Cruze have surpassed 100,000 units while sales of the New Sail have topped 60,000 units.
Sales of Cadillac, China's fastest-growing luxury car brand this year, were up 177.6 percent in August compared with the same month last year to 1,624 units. More than 1,000 SRX luxury SUVs were sold last month.
SAIC-GM-Wuling sold 95,119 vehicles in China in August, which represented year-on-year growth of 7.2 percent. Sales of the joint venture's Wuling brand were up 8.0 percent to 90,392 units, with demand for the Sunshine minivan surpassing 50,000 units for the eighth consecutive month.
GM's FAW-GM joint venture sold 5,039 light commercial vehicles in its first August reporting sales.
