UK promotes its Expo pavilion
UK Pavilion's operators and designers offered a preview of the country's Expo 2010 exhibition to local media at a promotional fair in London on Monday.
The event was jointly launched by the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office and UK Trade & Investment.
Thomas Heatherwick, chief designer of the pavilion, shared his inspiration and design of UK's Expo contribution - a cube-like structure pierced by 60,000 slim and transparent acrylic rods.
The centerpiece of the pavilion is the Seed Cathedral, and visitors will be able to explore a variety of seeds of different plants at each rod, Heatherwick said.
The cathedral represents UK's understanding of "Better City, Better Life," which also reflects how biological diversity has influenced and improved people's life, he added.
Andrew Cahn, Chief Executive of UK Trade & Investment, noted that the upcoming World Expo would create more opportunities in terms of the cooperation and development of Chinese and British companies. He hoped the pavilion would help Chinese youth learn more about UK and attract them to study in the country.
Simon Featherstone, the UK's project director for the Expo, said he was convinced that the upcoming World Expo would be the most splendid one in the event's history.
