HK ready to stun Expo visitors with extravaganza
Fashion shows, film debuts, visual art exhibitions, a raft of performances and parades - all these feature in Hong Kong plans for the World Expo.
There will be 47 cultural performances from the special administrative region during the fair, featuring Cantonese opera, Chinese and western music, multi-media shows and dance.
About one million HK people are estimated to visit the Expo, Joshua Law Chi-kong, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs of Hong Kong, told a press conference about "Hong Kong welcoming the 2010 Expo" in the region yesterday.
Hong Kong will embrace its theme week during the Expo from October 18 to 22 with fashion shows and film debuts, he said.

Wang Jinzhen, a member of the National Organizing Committee of the Expo and vice chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, presented updates of the fair during the conference.
Construction on the Theme Pavilion, Expo Center and Expo Boulevard has been finished, and the China Pavilion and Performance Center are almost completed.
About 80 percent of the 42 overseas self-built pavilions and 18 corporate pavilions have started interior decorate and exhibit arrangement. Forty-two rented pavilions and 11 joint pavilions have been handed over to participants, Wang said.
Hong Kong will explore the theme "Hong Kong - the Infinite City," with a focus on its transport network, advanced scientific facilities, financial and trade systems, multinational culture and sustainable high-quality urban life.
Highlights include environmental protection, tourism, culture, innovation and the "one country, two systems" principle.
Macau will celebrate this year's lantern festival falling on February 27 with Expo decorations as well. Landscape of the China Pavilion, Expo mascot Haibao, Macau Pavilion and Tak Seng On Pawnshop, Macau's UBPA case, will be erected in downtown Macau.
