Czech stamps issued for Expo 2010
Czech Republic has issued a special stamp featuring the Czech Pavilion and the unique logo of the country's participation as a contribution to the upcoming World Expo.
A ceremony was held at the Main Post Office on Jindřišská Street in Prague on February 10. Pavel A. Stehlik, commissioner general of the Czech Republic, and Marcela Hrdá, general director of the company Česká Pošta, (the Czech Post Office), attended the ceremony.
The stamp has a face value of 35 CZK (US$1.84). It is being issued in an edition of 70,000.
Envelopes of the first day of issue with a special seal are also available.
Czech has issued special postage stamp sets on the occasion of World Expo four times - to the World Expo in Brussels in 1958, in Montreal 1967, in Osaka 1970 and in Seville 1992.
The rented 2,000-square-meter pavilion will feature rubber ice-hockey pucks on its facade - pucks are a significant Czech export and ice hockey is its national sport.
The exhibition has the theme "Fruits of Civilization."
