Path to Electrification
The rapid development of urban cities is bringing new challenges to the modern world: energy shortage, pollution, congestion, road safety and more.
By 2020, it is expected that more than 1.1 billion cars, trucks, buses and other forms of transportation will be running on the roads. To address the potential challenges this will bring, GM is developing an advanced propulsion technology strategy, which focuses on both energy efficiency and energy diversity.
At GM, We believe tomorrow's automobiles must be flexible enough to accommodate many different energy sources. We place a high priority on vehicle electrification. We believe electric vehicle technology is one of the best long-term solutions to simultaneously decrease petroleum dependence, significantly reduce the emission impact on our environment, and enable the use of more sustainable energy pathways.
In addition to dramatically improving the efficiency of our internal combustion engines and transmissions, GM has made tremendous progress on broad-based plans for vehicle electrification, which includes hybrid-electric vehicles, extended-range electric vehicle, and hydrogen fuel cell-electric vehicles.
Electric vehicles have been around for a while. And we are finding better ways to speed up the commercialization progress, making our products more affordable and meeting consumers’ needs. Those needs can vary from a short commute to work, longer-range driving, or to haul cargo. GM has an excellent range of products that both meet the current consumer needs and provide an interim solution to full electrification. The upcoming Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle is a great solution for city and suburban driving. And the Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell Vehicle will appeal to drivers who need a larger vehicle but still want all the benefits of modern technology and freedom from emission.

Chevrolet Volt Extended-Range Electric Vehicle

Chevrolet Fuel Cell Equinox
This Year, GM will bring the Chevrolet Volt and the Chevrolet Fuel Cell Equinox to the World Expo 2010 Shanghai to serve as VIP transportation. Both of the vehicles will showcase the real-world application of GM's electrification strategy. We also have a little surprise that will be introduced at Expo 2010 – a new category of urban vehicle that will combine "electrification" with "connectivity". These great technology solutions will help realize the vision for future urban transportation: a future that is free from petroleum and emissions, free from accidents and congestions, while enabling driving to be more fun and fashionable than ever before.
You might have noticed, the refreshed GM Expo web site has a new tool called"GMBot". GMBot is a virtual tool that can answer your questions about GM's electrification technologies and tell you more about our great products like the Volt and the Fuel Cell Equinox. Make sure you take the time to go visit it at http://www.gmexpo2010.com/zh-hans/solutions/gmbot.
