Better fuel-saving?
Are there better fuel-saving measures?
We are so apt to be lost in the beautiful rhetoric of car makers when choosing a car. Choices were more easily made in the past: we simply turn to the few national brands like Forever and Phoenix when picking a bike. Nowadays, however, it is just too difficult to be loyal to one brand.
We Chinese people want the car to be both decent-looking and economical. Cars without “butts” are unacceptable, so are those not lengthened and not spacious enough for you to cross your legs in the rear end; small displacement vehicles are too face-losing to have, and those with big displacement are too fuel-consuming. All in all, in order to satisfy the discerning Chinese people, you have to put a small car a mid-sized one, and keep the fuel consumption a mini-car’s, and then you’ll make it.

God is always fair, and thus appeared these arguments: Japanese cars are fuel-efficient, but the skin is so thin you need to make yourself the airbag if a crash happens; U.S. cars are spacious and comfortable, fully equipped and strong, but they are all gas guzzlers; German car seems nice, but you need money for mid-size cars to buy just a small car with simple configuration.
But you might be a little bit too “persistent” if you still label a car that way. The Japanese are desperately crying: "our car may be small, but it is strong~", and Americans are trying to convince people with facts that "our technology is super, in the past when oil was cheap, it does not matter that our car was oil-consuming as long as it guarantee a strong horsepower. But now as the Middle East is going crazy and oil price keeps climbing, we can just replace the cars with fuel-efficient ones, or even oil-free ones to your hearts’ content. "The Germanic also lowers his head: "Who says we have low Performance-to-Price Ratio, just take a look at how many taxis in China are actually our cars!"
So, who makes the car does not make a difference, how the car works do. I have several friends who find that Buick and Chevrolet are no more oil-consuming than Japanese and German cars at the same level at all. Take engine for example, which is the core part of a car, we have a whole list of commonly used technology for improving fuel efficiency, like DVVT, VVT-i, i-VTEC, SIDI, TSI, and so on and on. But in essence, they are almost the same and no company is better than another. For other aspects that may impact fuel consumption, however, there might be big difference among different companies. It may be hard for you to tell when choosing a car, and that makes it more important.
It is about the time for me to stop now. As to the "better" fuel-saving measures and technologies I mentioned, please give me more time for more details. See you next time.
