Days Accompanied by You
The final concert of the Superband was hold in November, Beijing.
It is said that the atmosphere was very touching when the concert was ending, the audience’ enthusiasm made the Superband came back on the stage several times, in the end, they made their last farewell with the sensational sentence "even though we are saying goodbye, our melody will go on". The final performance of the golden combination ended---and a sense of loss disperses in the air.
In July, I went to the Super Band 2009 Shanghai Concert alone.
I wouldn’t believe it if I hadn’t seen it for my own eyes: no hype with scandals, no stirring dances with sexual indications, the four “old man” made the venue fully packed with funs in the current slump time of pop music, and although audiences are “old”, mainly born in the 1960 and 1970s, the atmosphere was really HIGH that the venue was nearly exploded. In addition to Chang Chen-yue, whose song was comparatively quite, nearly all other songs turned the concert into a big chorus.
Added together, the age of the four singers reaches up to 190, and their career with music exceeds 86 years producing more than 600 songs in 70 albums – lotayu, Jonathan Lee, Emil Chau and Chang Chen-yue, these names resounded in the music world when we were young. I always believe that concerts are where tears are most easily brought out, nowhere else can make you so emotional and sensitive.
What is more nostalgia than those melodies?
Maybe the moment before that, you are rushing with your work, thinking about a missed opportunity or a shrewd client you are dealing with, you might have totally forgotten your childhood dreams, or the girl that first hold your breath. Pace of life is so fast, and when we turn a page of life, we just leave it there to be covered with dust. But the moment the old melody plays, those uncatchable memories, like pictures in fixative, becomes clearer little by little. Unique memories of the past passes in our heads, and our eyes easily get wet.
The Wall Street Journal Web site once held an activity calling for articles on “your own GM (General Motors) memories".
Misha, a man from Philadelphia, recalled: He once had a Pontiac Fiero. When His brother-in -law drove it he knocked into a deer, but fortunately the sturdy frame of the Fiero saved their life. Misha also said he had two girlfriends in his life, and both of their fathers worked for GM, they all lived a decent life because they are taken good care of by the United Auto Workers (UAW), who had been striving for worker’s rights.
When looking at a Fiero, Misha will surly recall something: a thrilling car accident, or romantic love story.
We need carriers for our memories: a “hero” brand pen from a primary school teacher, a ticket for a long journey for the first time, a hard shell notebook from a university roommate, LEVIS bought with the first salary ... ...they ignite our memories and restore old times, maybe that’s why those things are so warm and touching. While we ourselves cannot withstand the test of time, we hope some people or something will persist, be those songs or brands. The past time left behind seems closer because of their accompany.
Therefore, lotayu and his fellows needn’t even open their mouth to bring back our memories, they themselves are symbols of the past time, and keys to our locked memories.
