The emerald carving of Haibao
The Colombia Pavilion presented its emerald carving of Haibao, the Expo 2010 mascot, to Shanghai Expo Museum on November 18.
Gustavo Gaviria, the commissioner general of Colombia Pavilion, said the pavilion decided to present the emerald Haibao to thank Expo Shanghai for giving Colombia a good platform.
Emerald is an emblem of Colombia as well as a source of national pride. Colombia boasts nearly 95 percent of the world’s known emerald reserve. The top-class Colombia emerald is priced at about US$18,000 per carat. The 5,000-carat emerald Haibao took skilled craftsmen nearly two months to complete.
The Expo Museum is under construction at the Puxi site with a planned area of more than 20,000 square-metres to display many popular exhibits during Expo Shanghai. Over 500 items from 200 pavilions are expected to be donated within this year.
