Manhattan citizens troubled by the stray slimer, ectoplasmic spook or skeletal living dead librarian have always known where to turn when there's something strange in the neighborhood: the world famous Ghostbusters, widely known for their expertise, wit and property damage alike. After September 11th, though, there seems to be decidedly less paranormal activity in the Big Apple, and it looks like Vennkman and company might have fallen on rough times: the classic Ghostbusters cadillac ambulance is now up for auction.

In our non-fictional universe, it's sadly not the original vehicle: this recreation Ghostbusters' definitive mode of transport was originally a rusting 1959 Cadillac S&S ambulance was found in 1997 by Chris Reynolds in Maryland, who then spent almost $100,000 dollars to recreate 1984's most desirable set of wheels, the Ecto-1.

Says Reynolds:

The car's ghostly presence is in stark contrast to the real life experience of bringing it back to life – and the cost of doing so! The car was about to be scrapped when I discovered it and the restoration has been a real labour of love, and hopefully it will find a worthy home.

The Ecto-1 lookalike will be up for grabs at the Historics at Brooklands auction taking place on Saturday, September 25th, and is expected to sell for an astonishing $130,000. Before you think about writing a check, though, be warned: this baby’s a gas guzzler, racking up a paltry 8 miles per gallon.
