Welcome to the Official GM Expo Campaign Kick-Off

Even though it’s a lot of hard work, I have to admit that I have a really cool job. I’m the Project Manager for GM’s Shanghai World Expo 2010 participation and everyday I help to carry out GM and SAIC’s shared vision for transportation in 2030.  I work closely with our partner, SAIC, to ensure that our Expo pavilion is the most memorable and visionary pavilion in the entire Expo park.

Since I joined the project two and half years ago, we have made tremendous progress including developing the design architecture as well as the pavilion and visitor experience to demonstrate a positive future for personal urban mobility.  Our pavilion inspiration really came from the legacy GM left at the 1939 New York World’s Fair with their Futurama experience.  GM presented the concept of “Superhighway” there and 16 years later the first highway appeared in the U.S.  By the 1960’s, the superhighway had completely changed people’s lives.

We hope that our pavilion will have the same powerful impact on future transportation. When visitors come to the SAIC-GM pavilion they will see a future world that is free from petroleum, free from emissions, free from accidents and free from congestion all made possible through GM’s solutions of electrification, connectiviy and autonomous driving. And the most exciting part is that it’s not just a sci-fi dream, but a vision that’s within our reach —only 20 years from now—these advanced technology solutions will be as indispensable as mobile phones, iPods and the internet.

In addition to our remarkable pavilion experience, we wanted to provide an opportunity to connect with consumers outside of the Expo park around China and globally. That’s why we’ve launched the www.gmexpo2010.com site. This Web site will give consumers a behind-the-scenes look at GM’s Expo experience as well as our global initiatives for advanced technology. Through both our pavilion and our Web site, we’re going to show you how cars will look, drive and even think in 2030… and how cars will bring positive changes to our lives in the future.

This is really a once-in-lifetime experience to be working on the World Expo 2010 Shanghai. I plan to share my journey here with you over the next year and I hope to get your candid feedback not only about our pavilion and Web site, but also your thoughts about GM’s advanced technology solutions. We hope that we can change the way you think about future urban transportation.  Let’s drive to 2030 together!

What was the inspiration for the exrternal Expo pavilion?

Does it stand for anything?
